Free Software 365 - Pros & Cons of Free Software Downloads

Free Software 365

Free Software 365 - Free software downloads can save you the hundreds of dollars you would have to spend to get a program. However, free downloads also have their share of drawbacks.

For one, some free software programs are not as effective or high-quality as normally priced programs. For example, most experts advise against relying on free anti-virus programs to protect your PC.

Secondly, free software is often free because it monitors your behavior and collects information about you. Unless you're willing to give up some of your privacy, a free ad-based software program may not be worth it.

Finally, free software downloads rarely come with the customer support that you would enjoy with a purchased program. Because you downloaded the item for free, you may not be able to get the technical assistance you need to run the program successfully.

Free Software 365 - Software That Is Free to Obtain Has Long Term Costs

Free Software 365

Free Software 365 - A trade group study reports that software that is initially free to obtain actually has significant long-term costs.

The trade group warned government agencies against free-to-obtain software, claiming that the long-term expenditures of the products outweigh the benefits. Free-to-obtain programs are especially tempting in light of the global recession.

Costs commonly associated with free-to-obtain software include downtime, support, and management. Agencies and businesses often fail to consider these expenses when acquiring software programs.

One of the trade-offs with free-to-obtain programs is the surrendering of a certain degree of privacy. Ad-supported software collects information about its users and can thus result in a threat to security.
